Since 2008, Launching Place Primary School has been involved in the Schoolaerobics competitions. Schoolaerobics is the largest inter-school Sportaerobic and Dance competition for Primary School students throughout Australia. Boys and Girls from Grade 3 to Grade 6 are eligible to compete. The event caters for the novice, intermediate and elite standard competitors.
The aim of School aerobics is to provide our students with an avenue to improve their fitness, confidence, health and self esteem through participation in a healthy and fun competition. The students develop co-ordination, flexibility and team work.
Over the years, Launching Place Primary School has been very successful. In 2013 our Grade 5/6 Girls team, Dynamic, won the silver medal at the National Championships on the Gold Coast. In 2012, our boys’ team qualified for Nationals and received the bronze medal in Sydney. In 2010 we represented Launching Place and Victoria in Tasmania in 3 sections, Primary Littlies, Primary Aerobics (grade 5/6) and Primary All-Boys and we achieved a 2nd, 3rd and 5th. In 2009, we had 2 teams attend Nationals in Adelaide and compete in the Novice section. We received Gold and Silver medals. In 2009, we went to Brisbane with one team in the Primary Littlies section (grade 3/4) and we achieved the Bronze medal.
There are four opportunities for students to compete each year. Students compete at the Preliminary finals in May, the State finals in June, the National Championships in August (selected students) and the Spring Challenge in October.
All practices are held at school, either before school, recess or lunch time.
Special Thank you to Kate Holmes for putting the DVD together and Lisa Ruehmer for her fantastic photography.
